Dubai is the second largest emirate in the UAE. It is situated on the Arabian Gulf, southwest of the emirate of Sharjah and northeast of Abu Dhabi.
With a population of close to a million in 2004, it thrives as a prominent commercial hub and economic goal post of the Middle East. The city’s amiable multicultural matrix and tax-free economy attract a potential workforce and enterprising business ventures.
‘Bur Dubai’ in the south is the city’s traditional heart. It is separated from the northern area of Deira through a narrow, 10-km long lovely Creek. The Ruler’s office, head offices of major companies, Port Rashid, the Dubai World Trade Center, Customs, broadcasting stations and Postal authority are all in Bur Dubai.
Deira, the thriving commercial centre hosts a range of retail outlets, markets, hotels and Dubai International Airport. Bur Dubai and Deira are linked by Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges and Al Shindagha tunnel.
Jebel Ali, home of a huge man-made port, has the largest free-trade zone in Arabia housing an ever-growing number of international corporations engaged in manufacturing and redistribution.
Jumeirah beach is tourists’ hotspot. It has a number of spectacular, award-winning hotels and sports facilities. Inland, the mountain resort town of Hatta is an extremely impressive location. Besides these, the city has several other attractions
